recent music videos

I am doing research with music videos. I want to find a music video that I similar to what I am doing so I can relate to what they are doing and use their a few of my techniques to make my music video look more realistic and effective. Firstly though a music video is a filmed or videotaped rendition of a recorded song, often portraying musicians performing the song or including visual images interpreting the lyrics. so because my song is Christina Perri- Thousand Years is about love and romance and basically waiting for having someone they have waited a thousand years for then i want to do something that relates to these lyrics.

this is a homemade video of christina perris music video, they have used lyrics in their video as well as actress. they have used different ways to show the lyrics with different hand writing and on diferent backgrounds. it randomly has a girl walking but everything seems really dark. the camera is slightly shaky now and then during the music video. also because of the lighting now and then you are unable to see the actual writing is or the camera moves too fast so we are unable to write what is being said

this is a shorten version of the music video, the girl is mouthing to the song in a few different settings starting well at the start with her actually playing the piano. unfortunelty in a few shots her head has been cut out and you cant completely see her facial expressions and looks slight off. the lighten is too bright and at times it makes her look too pale and even like she doesnt have a nose. the camera though is quite still luckily. some scenes are

this is chrographic video of two girls dancing to the music doing contempary dancing. this is a different way of doing the video as there isnt any acting or story line. its all in black and white and their outfits are matching and its done in a garage. its very simple but their dance is thought of as an 'emotional dance' so it goes with the song.

this is a homemade video of a girl singing the song in her own voice. they change the filters quite a few times. which is much less professional if she is trying to make a music video. the font of the writing through the video also changes a lot and appears at random times. there are times when the head of the person is cut off while filming so facial expressions cant be seen. also sometimes the music and the lyrics arent syncronised so the lip singing is slightly off. the lighting is different in every differnet scenery and it has no reason to be like that.

this is sung by both a girl and a boy. the face of the girl at times is slightly cut off or at an angle where you cant see the face of the girl. also the quality of the video when its just the girl singing is much lower than the quality of videoing the other sceneries. the Story Line: A boy and girl had been best friends since before they could remember. They both secretely loved eachother but were too shy to ever confess it. Christy (the girl), has to move away, and the two agree to write eachother any time they can. After she moves into her house, Alex writes her a letter, but Christy never gets it because her jealous sister throws it away when shes not looking. When she asks her about it, she just nonchalantly denies it. Christy decides to write him a letter, hoping that maybe then he'll reply. Her sister can't take it anymore, she writes christy a letter, prending to be Alex saying that him and christy shouldn't be friends anymore. Christy is heartbroken. She impulsively runs to the bathroom and overdoses on pills, trying to kill herself. Her sister finds her and realizes that she had caused this. She calls 911 and an amublance comes to get christy. Christy ends up in the hospital and her sister comes to visit her, reluctantly telling her that she was the one who hid the letters and impersonated alex. She gives Christy the letters that she hid, in the letter she finds out that Alex has loved her all along

leading lines

leading lines and balance

-direct the viewers eyes to the main subject of the frame using lines
-curves lines show softness or movement
-diagnal lines show excitment
-vertical lines show dignity strength and power
-horizontal lines show calm and relaxtion.

symmentrical balance: creates formal appearanece
asymmentrical balance: creates as informal appearence and may suggest more creative

in my music video i will be using leading lines in a few of my shots to show the significance of the character also showing the mood of the scene example of leading lines:

depth of field

depth of feild also known as D.O.F :
-F stop
-Aperture
-Focal length
-focus
-DOF
-bokeh

depth of feild dpends on:
-aperture size (F stop)
- focal length (legth of lens)
- distance to subject

F- means focal ratio this can be shown as

N=  f/d
F= focal length
D= Aperture diameter
the smaller th eF stop the bigger the hole, the bigger the F stop the smaller the hole.
the bigger the hole the shallower the DOF, the smaller the hole the deeper the DOF

AV on wide aperature (small F stop)
-long focal length (zoom in as much as possible 250mm if you have it)
-as close to the subject as possible
-the subject away  the subject is to the background increase bokeh

deep depth of field:
AV on a narrow aperture ( large F stop)

5 rules of compostition:
-background
-rule of thirds
-framing
-leading lines
-balance

background:
-dont place your primary subject against a busy or congested background
-alter your shot to keep the focus on your main subject

-rule of thirds:
-keep the main subject between the cross section

-look for natural frames within your scene
